Artist's Comments

First off, to anyone unfamilar with the Discworld books (GO! Go read them NOW! I'll wait) this is Death, and he is not reaping the little girl's soul, that's his granddaughter, Susan.

This is one of my favorite scenes/images (from Soul Music) of all-time from the Discworld books. And I've had this clear image in my head of what I wanted this to look like...

Death is fascinated by humans, which leads him to, amoung other things, end up with a granddaughter. He tries to be a good granddad but he just doesn't have a grasp on physics. He tries to put up a swing for her, but since the two lowest branches are on opposite sides of the tree, he just removes the trunk...

I had in mind nursery rhyme illustrations and I tried to make it soft and simple so you can see little details, like Death holding Susan's little hand.

Not a sequential series, although it doesn't hurt to read them in order. They're all extremely funny.

I just can't get enough of those two...Terry Prachett better live a long, long life...and spend lots of that time writing.

On a side note, here [link]) There a couple neat things in this article, (and the picture! AW!)
